Latvia’s Security Barometer 4/2024 (mid-October 2024 to mid-January 2025)   

During the fourth quarter of 2024 Latvia’s security along with that of Europe has become increasingly frail. The incoming Trump administration’s positions on European and wider security, NATO, economic protectionism (tariffs) and possible territorial ambitions are not yet clear. The weakness of the French and German governments together with a shaky start for the newly governing Labour Party in the United Kingdom makes Europe vulnerable. At the same time, Russia continued various hybrid operations, including damaging critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea and attempting to pull Georgia and Moldova closer to its orbit.
